Corcovado National Park - Self Guided Hikes Banned?

I read online that self guided hikes are no longer allowed in Corcovado National Park? Can anyone confirm?

I heard that too, but I don't think it's true. At least not being enforced. There were people hiking on their own this past June.

YES it is 100% absolutely true. According to the official Management Plan for Corcovado National Park. BUT it is also true that they may or may not enforce it on the day you arrive, so its best to NOT get jammed after traveling SOOO far to get there, and hire a certified guide.

The downer is that this makes it expensive BUT it helps protect the natural resources. People were leaving trash and being destructive, so they made the rule.

Also, the cross park trail between San Pedrillo and Sirena is also closed, with or without a guide.

You can send us an email if you want to check the latest status of these things. We are in Costa Rica and can call park headquarters for you.
