boat and hiking tours from Uvita to Corcovado

Our family of 5 will be staying outside Uvita for a week and want to visit Corcovado and was wondering if anyone had information about the one day tours from Uvita. Is this the best way to go for one day?

Did a one day tour from Ojochal in 2008 with Southern Expeditions. We were picked up from our hotel at 7 am by a nice air conditioned van that seated about 20- I believe they started out in Dominical and picked up people along the way and we were the last 2 to board. We made the drive to Sierpe and boarded a boat for the 2 hour ride to San Pedrillo ranger station where we made a beach landing, so be prepared to get your feet wet. From there we did about a 2 hour hike along the beach and on trails that lead inland a bit. After the hike we had a good lunch at the ranger station and then headed back to Sierpe. We made it back to our hotel about 5 so it was a pretty long day.To really see the park you should consider staying closer(Drake Bay ,Puerto Jimenez, or Carate) as the logistics from Uvita dictate a somewhat limited stay in the park itself- we were glad we did the trip but it was a looong day!

I suggest you contact Sonia and her staff at the Uvita Information Center - http://www.uvita.info/ . They can lay out all of the options by explaining the differences in the trips offered by various providers. Then you can pick one that suits you best. There is no fee for her services, she is compensated by the company. She makes a point of knowing the details of each trip and the level of quality and service that is provided and drops providers from her list if they fall below her standards.

There are Corcovado trips that leave from the beach in Uvita and others that begin with a mini-van trip to Sierpe, and then a ride downriver to the ocean and then on to Corcovado. During whale season, you might want more ocean time, otherwise the river ride gives you a look at the mangrove environment on your way to your jungle hike.

I have no connection to Uvita Information Center other than as a happy and satisfied customer of several years standing.

Hi, Corcovado Trips are available both from the beach in Uvita (Marino Ballena Park) as well as via Mangroves in Sierpe.

My favourite with the best feedback from our guests is http://www.bahiaaventuras.com/

You can find their TA reviews here: tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g635755-d1…

Other reputable operators I recommend:

http://www.dolphintourcostarica.com/

www.ballenatourcostarica.com/in/home.html

http://www.southernexpeditionscr.com/

All above depart from Uvita beach except Southern Expeditions which will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Sierpe (1 hour drive) then you will go through the mangroves out to sea.

Enjoy!

I was thinking of taking a trip with Bahia out to Cano Island for the full day snorkeling trip and Southern Expeditiones to see Corcovado. I learned from tripadvisors that the routes out are different (trying to make it more interesting for the family) but am I being redundant? or do you think both trips are worthwhile.

Than you road advisor.....have you any info about a canopy tour (relatively new) called OSA canopy/zip line, one hour south of Uvita? Is it better than Hacienda baru?

Canopy Osa Zip Line is more adrenaline filled. Hacienda Baru is my favorit and is more of a nature canopy Tour with a nature guide.

Hi,

I have been reading this forum and trying to access the Southern Expeditions website but cannot seem to get through. Is anyone else having this problem/do you know a way to get in touch with them?

I am trying http://www.southernexpeditionscr.com/

Cheers,

Chloe

Southern Expeditions are still working but closed their offices in Sierpe and Dominical and are downsizing their operations.

Bahia Adventures is a very good tour company and a similar type of operation out of Sierpe with pick up in Dominical and uvita is Perla del Sur: http://www.perladelsur.net/
