One day off a cruise ship-tour guide necessary?

We have 8 hours off a cruise ship. Do we need a tour guide or should we do on our own?

Tour guide recommendation?

this is one of the rare occasions where i would recommend a guide. because you only have one day it makes sense to get a guide to show you around rather than spend half your day staring at a map trying to figure things out. where is your ship docking? limon?

i agree with prior post, tour guide would show around and you would do the best of your time, if arrives to puntarenas, they could show the town,

if you are arriving to Limon, there are several beaches you can visit in short time, have good caribbean food and enjoy around.

have a fun cruise

You can check here for some excursions: www.shore-excursion.com

www.puertocaldera.net I would recommend their Carara National Park tour but not the Monteverde tour. With 8 hours only, it's too far to go in one day. www.yourtravelmap.com for distances and driving times.

Also check Aguila Tours with Juan Brenes.

Docking? Do you mean where the ship actually docks? If you go with a tour, it won't matter. They will pick you up. If you opt to go off on your own, it won't matter because you will step off the ship and either take a taxi or arrange to have a rental car meet you.

Really is best to go with a guide or on a tour. They know where to go and how to get there. You could probably rent a car and drive to Carara and hire a guide at the park - another option.

I guide a lot of people all the time from cruise ships...and in your case it is a lot better if you have a good professional guide and driver with a nice vehicle!

If ....your ship docks in Caldera and have a few hours ....... Try somethig little different ...go to Miramar ..up the hills .... the are small littles villages, with friendly local campesinos .....something different ....very "costarrican"

You will need a driver/guide ....
