Arrivals Duty Free at SJO

Hey everyone

I've read some older posts about the duty free store at SJO, but wanted to get some clarity.

Is there in fact a duty free store upon arrival into SJO?

If so, we are arriving at 9pm, does anyone know the hours?

In terms of alcohol, what are you legally allowed to bring into the country with you?

Should we just shop in our departure city or wait until we get to the arrivals area at SJO?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Dean

See my post 2 here - https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g309271… . It has a link to the map of SJO airport with the duty frees locations upon arrival.

There are two duty frees at arrivals and they are both 24 hours. I have seen many conflicting reports on the limits but lets just say they are high. The folks at the duty free will know but I don't think the customs guys care. Most of the time they are barely paying attention.

The liquor in the arrivals duty free is a much better deal than what you get in your departure airport. Theis stock does vary, though, so if you have your heart set on a particular brand, you might not be able to get it.

We always stock up at the airport when we arrive. They are very good at packaging your bottles for transport.

I think you were right the first tie. I would go by hat the Embassy said - 5 liters. http://costarica-embassy.org/index.php ?q=node/111

Here's another version of the link CanaTico posted above in #8: https://goo.gl/gJg2oe

>> Wine and liquor (up to 5 litters per person). You have to be 18 years or older. <<
