What drink do you recommend that a visitor tries ( breakfast lunch or Dinner ) to get a favour of Costa Rica. ?
one of my favourites is guaro and pear juice. typically bars don't carry pear juice, so it's a make at home drink.
Guaro as mentioned is made here in CR from sugar cane. IMO it's BRUTAL, but something to try...
The various fresh fruit batidos which are basically smoothies. Also various fresh fruit drinks.
If you like liqueurs, a good thing to bring home is cafe Rica which is very similar to Kahlua. They also have an irish cream like drink called Golden Creme.
Some people really like the costa Rican rum, Ron Centenario while other like the Nicaraguan rum Flor de Caña.
There are many drinks made with Guaro, but If you want to drink Guaro like a Tico you do a straight shot followed by a straight shot of fresca. Other beverages to try include fruit juices made from exotic fruits like cas, tamarind and guanabana (sour sop) simple put through the blender, or as a refresco which is a smoothie made with water or milk. The no brainer of course is coffee, and if you are in Puntarenas you have to have a Churchill, which only has about a thousand calories. (google it)Edited: 15 November 2013, 01:48
huevos en salsa
guaro y tomate y limon y hiello
I have looked up the Churchill drink - and WOW.
