MOOREA Lagoonarium

The question about the Lagoonarium is often asked. Here is detailed information.

Hello everybody !

- The «Lagoonarium de Moorea» is situated on the island of Moorea in the little town of Afareaitu at about 4 kilometers from the ferry dock.

- We are open everyday from 8 am to 4 pm.

- Our prices: 3200frs/adult (about 32$) and 2500frs/kid from 2 y.o to 12 y.o

These includes : transfert by motored boat, fish feedings, kayaks, access to all our facilities (kitchen, barbecue, beach, little huts -depending on vacancy-, other well arranged areas...).

- Bring your snorkeling gear or rent it on our site (500frs/mask & snorkle).

- You can bring your own food or order on site. However we do not have cold drinks, don't forget your « igloo ».

Any estimate on the cost of a taxi from the pier where the Paul Gauguin tenders usually go? It was $20 US each way to,the Hilton.

A few weeks ago it was $25 per.....but we saw a group of 6 get a rate of $100RT ....

and it's a lot farther than the Hilton.

but we opted to just rent a car and do it ourselves.

Bo - thanks for sharing the comprehensive info - nice to have it all in one post!

Rue - did you rent a car for the day? Did you stay at the Hilton? We're staying at the Hilton in September and wondering if we should rent a car for the day to sight see on the island.

When we stayed at the Hilton we rented a car for the entire stay.....we just liked being able to explore anytime we wanted..... and also liked not feeling trapped.

When we later went on the cruise we also rented for the 2 days as we already knew our way around and had many spots we wanted to re-visit (Lagoonarium/Snack Mahana/Mt Belvedere/Les Tip/Legends etc ).

But we are both Type A's---LOL

I used to be a Type A! But leopards never change their spots , do they? Or is that Cheetahs... ha, ha.

OK pls share how we can arrange for a car hire. ONly there for one day off a cruise. Is it insane to try to do Belvedere and Lagoonarium in one day

Do they accept US Dollars or do we need to take local currency? I've read everywhere and did not find that in any forum.

Reserve a car through Avis. We had a car reserved today at the IC where we're staying for a few before our cruise. We also reserved one for one of the days we're on Moorea with the cruise. Yes, it's absolutely possible to do both. I'd suggest going to Belvedere Lookout first to avoid busses on the road. We were at the top by nine and down by ten. You could then be at the Lagoonarium before 11.

We stopped by today to check it out, but I forgot to ask that ? I'm planning on taking local currency.

On our drive today, we also drove up to Fare Hamara. What a great view! Didn't go inside but talked to the caretaker for a few minutes. Also, found Moorea Fare Miti that has been recommended here and is on a beautiful beach!.

IMHO, the view from Magic Mountain is much more spectacular than the one from the Belvedere lookout. :)
