Papeete to Aitutaki?

Can anyone tell me the best way to get from Papeete to Aitutaki?

Is there a direct route (plane, boat)?

Hi Sarychuk,

Sorry no direct route. There is a plane once a week that goes from Papeete to Rarotonga then you would have to fly back to Aitutaki. That would be your best option.

There are no 'regular' passenger boats/ships, etc. that travel the islands. Sometimes it's possible to catch a cargo ship, but they are few and far between and I don't know of any that would go from Aitutaki directly to Papeete.

Air Tahiti (not Air Tahiti Nui) fly weekly on Tuesday mornings from PPT to RAR, then you take an Air Rarotonga flight on to Aitutaki (there are several every day).

That is the only way. We made it earlier this month. The planes are small, and carry-on is restricted as there is limited overhead storage. We checked in our regular suitcases and our regular size carry-on bags as checked luggage, removing valuables to take on board. They were not 'picky' about weight, just size, as they nodded through 55kg between two of us on both Air Tahiti & Air Rarotonga.
