selecting excursion

I am trying to decide between choosing an excursion where I take a helicopter to Mendenhall Glacier or one that includes dogsledding on the glacier for late August. From what I read, there isn't too much snow and the dogsledding gets cancelled. I also heard its best to book the helicopters later in the day due to fog in the a.m. or poor flying conditions. What do you suggest? Thanks! :)

1. Re: selecting excursion

they're still doing the dog sledding on Mendenhall all the way up to the last ship, at least with TEMSCO. ERA Helicopters also offers a dog sled adventure (but I can't comment about that one).

When you say there is still dogsledding up until the last ship, do you mean in late August or do you mean a particular time of day? Sorry, but I was just seeking clarification. :-)

ERA does a wonderful job, their site says they do tour through Aug. 31...

Can't imagine that there would be a lack of snow at the elevation where they do the tours, that doesn't make sense.

last ship is in late September.

even during the peak summer, it can be at or near freezing up on the ice field.
