Kodiak Itinerary Help Please - Early July

So, my work will bring me and the family to Anchorage for a month this summer. We've booked tickets for a Friday-Monday trip to Kodiak for just the Mrs. and me. We arrive Friday late afternoon and return Monday afternoon.

We aren't sure how to split the time - bears, kayaking, etc. We're fairly young and active as well.

Advice please?

Thanks!

I hope needinsun, the TA poster who lives in Kodiak, might see this.

I can just tell you what I am planning on doing in the exact same time frame (late Fri to late Mon, but for me in late August), and/or I will list info I have found in my research.

For bear watching:

Andrew Air

Seahawk Air

Bear Quest Aviation

Seahawk

hiking and biking:

kodiakadventuresunlimited.com/opportunities.…

This link shows info about the museums as well as info on bicycle rental

Chiniak about 1 hour drive from Kodiak

There is a dinner cruise with Galley Gourmet. The food is all home-made and it is a nice evening on the water. There is a 2-for-1 coupon in Toursaver for this cruise.

I have not run into the kayaking outfits but I assume the Kodiak website would have info.

Check out Orcas Unlimited for kayaking. My husband and I took a day trip with them in 2008 and had a great time.

I didn't think of kayaking in Kodiak. Good idea. Thanks. I will have to look into it.

When you get here do to the Visitors Center they have a great map of day hikes....Kodiak has some of the best, most beautiful hikes on earth, and early July is a great time for all the wildflowers and greenery. All the roads are scenic. Enjoy your trip, remember that we have a marine climate and the weather is very unpredictable, so expect rain and be grateful for sun.

Thank you. Where would you suggest staying for the two nights while hiking?
