First time in Kerela-Please help me in holiday planning :)

Hello All, this will be my first time to Kerela and very special too , my son's 1st birthday :) I will be coming from Bangalore and this will be 5-6 days trip in Third week on August, I have thought to start my trip from Trivandrum and while returning it will be from Cochin . These are the places in my mind after reaching Trivandrum (open to suggestions / amendments) Kovalam ( 2 days with beaches another day for Kanyakumari and Poovar island ) then Varkala, Kumarkom ( no idea about attractions for these two, ur recommendations pls) , Munnar ( don't want to skip this hill station), Thekkedy ( if this is just for wild life , I can skip this one ) then Cochin ( is it worth going to Cochin Fort ) is this ok , what can be mode of travel, is it not too much of travelling considering we will be having an infant with us.

Please recommend hotels/ resorts too not necessarily luxurious but yes having an infant I would like to have good ones in case rain plays spoilsport we can enjoy in resort itself ( I have Turtle on beach and Leela on my mind for Kovalam .

P.S : Not looking for any tour packages , I just need some real travellers expert advises :) thanks

Hi Nehaa

welcome to kerala :)

its a good idea to make arrival & departure point at 2 locations which is a brillient idea to reduce travel time.

i guess you are packing too much in a 6 day plan.

To have a relaxed plan suggestions in itinerary are as follows

1) kovalam part is ok for 2 days.proceed to kovalam in day 1 & enjoy beaches ( 3 beaches are there).day 2 can be dedicated for kanyakumari & poovar islands

2) skip varkala because of time constraints and already beaches are covered in kovalam

3) in kumarakom,day-3 you can opt for houseboat day trip. (you may skip overnight stay because of monsoon).if not intrested in house boat, you may do a shikkara/canoe ride, visit bird santuary & drift museum.overnight, stay in any of back water resort.kumarakom lake resort, zuri, coconut lagoon etc are my recommendations.

4) Thekkady is mainly for wild life attractions.apart from it you may visit elephant junction where your kid will be enjoyed very much with company of elephant.you may skip this time because of time constraints

5) day 4 & 5 can be used for munnar sight seeing.you may check some previous munnar forum for itinerary.stay in wind/sienna village/club mahindra

6) fort kochi attractions include chinese fishing nets,st fransis church, mattanchery dutch palace, jewish street & synague.if intrested visit ,else spend day 6 in munnar itself

it will be better to hire a cab for whole trip.you may post a query in message board of kerala tourism website to get some competative quotes.

enjoy your trip,have a nice holidays :)

Hi

Too much in 5-6 days.

I think as you are basically intending a good time for the child, Beach Experience, Backwaters and Wildlife would be the option. 2 Nights at Kovalam, 1 Night at Alleppey Houseboat, 2 Night at Munnar would be a good option.

Regards

Sam

Look at the map and see where things are located. I have made a map with the places you are planning: http://goo.gl/maps/DH0rn

There is a long drive to Munnar, it is in the mountains. Rest of the places are on the coast.
