In December, there may be light rain but normally, it is not often. This time Sapa is covered by many blossom cherry flowers

It depends on where you are going to trek. For easy trekking as trekking to Cat Cat, Lao Chai Ta van , Ta Phin, Ham Rong, Sin Chai, Giang Ta Chai, running shoes are fine. However, for trekking from Tram Ton to Cat Cat, Fansifan climbing, trekking shoes should be taken

OK, how about closed-toed Keen sandals for a multi-day trek in Sapa?

'Trekking' in Sa Pa involves walking on (sometimes) steep, paved roads, and sometimes diverting into some hills using gravel or dirt paths/roads. If the weather is wet, mud is to be expected.

Finding the right footwear for this activity is not that difficult. The local people walk there every day, and they certainly do not wear Nikes or other fancy footwear.

Jesdot, trekking in Sapa in Dec can be cold and wet. While running shoes sound fine for where you want to go in warmer months you may want to consider how comfortable you'll be if your feet are cold and wet.

BillG, I wear my keens while hiking in Sapa in warm weather. But if you are going in cold weather months they may not provide the insulation you need.

Whatever the season, be prepared for mud.
