Turtle Sanctuary

Could someone give me directions to the Turtle Sanctuary please. We didn't find it last year and I would like to see it and give a donation.

You have to take the dolmus to the far end of the beach away from the river. From the bus, walk to the back of the carpark, sort of parallel to the road down, past the toilets, and up through the lovely tall fir trees and it is along there.

Well worth visiting.

Its at the "dolmus end"of Iztuzu beach. You can't really miss it, just a couple of hundred yards from the beach.

Hi Tracy

If you take a dolmus to the beach it drops you off at the opposite end of the beach to where the boats drop you off. Towards the rear of the cafe, set back well off the beach you will see a couple of buildings with a rough path to them. You won't see any big advertising boards or anything but will see some information signs as you approach. The main building houses several big round tubs in which are kept the "patients"- sometimes only one or two turtles but several at other times. Just be aware that it can be quite distressing to see the horrific injuries suffered by some of the turtles (it literally brought tears to my eyes), but this is such a worthwhile sanctuary to visit and a very good cause to support. There's a donation box on the way into the building. Enjoy your hols :-)

Yes, dolmus to the beach. Walk the path heading towards the little lake (which you'll see as you get off the dolmus) and you can't miss it. There's also a fair old size sign making sure you don't go the wrong way.

.... Yes take tissues. It was sad seeing the same turtles on our second trip to the sanctuary ie. from one year to the next. They do a marvellous job in caring for these poor animals and your financial support will be gratefully received.
