road biking around Bisbee

My wife and I are going to be staying in Bisbee at the end of March and were hoping to do some road biking. Can anyone provide any suggestions for routes (50-70 mile round trips),points of interest along the way.? Places to rent a bike (wanted to avoid shipping my bike). Is auto traffic bike friendly? thanks for your input !!

It's bike friendly for the most part. We actually get quite a few bikers in Southern Arizona.

There are four routes out of Bisbee, so that sort of limits your choices: Highway 80 East (toward Douglas), Highway 80 West (toward Tombstone), Highway 92 West (toward Palominas), Warren Road (toward Bisbee Junction and Naco).

How about Highway 80 West to Tombstone, Charleston Road to Sierra Vista, and Highway 90 back to Bisbee. 73 miles supposedly. Charleston Road takes you over the San Pedro River which is lined with cottonwoods and features a small hiking trail running by it.

Another could be south down Warren Road to Bisbee Junction, west to Naco, then back north on Naco Highway to Highway 90 and back to Bisbee. 25 miles. At Naco, you can also go across the border, and it's a cute little border town, unlike Nogales.

Another, but somewhat flatter, east on Highway 80, cut off on Double Adobe Road (paved) to US 191, then south to Douglas and back west on Highway 80. 58 miles.

If you are in town on a weekend check out the Bisbee Bike Brothel on the gulch (cool tshirts too!) Ken Wallace is the owner and a really intersting guy. His place is as much a bike museum as it is bike shop. Ken is trying really hard to get the County to let him retire but until he does he's open most Saturday & Sundays - but if you get in a pinch call the number on the door - he'll help you out if he can!
