Hi Angie....you were lucky to get a room! Spook Weekend is also known as Jerome Homecoming, a weekend of events for former local residents. There is usually an associated high school reunion as well as a mariachi band in front of the downtown "steps" on Saturday morning. If you are staying at a B&B, breakfast conversation can be fascinating as you may be talking to the grandchildren of the original miners.

Not really any special events for someone touring through (the mariachi band starts at 11am and is fun to listen to). There will probably be live music at the Spirit Room Friday night, Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon and evening. October is prime weather in northern AZ, so expect town to be quite full during the days. Evenings will be quieter. The Asylum restaurant goes all out on Halloween decorating starting October 1, and people make the pilgrimage to eat dinner and observe the haunted decor and staff costumes all month. If you want to try for dinner, reservations strongly advised.

Spook Night is actually an annual weekend reunion for those that worked in the Jerome mines. The mining industry in Jerome closed down in the early 1950s and many continued their trade in the Southern Arizona mining communities of Bisbee, Ajo, Clifton-Morenci. Even though the Jerome miners have either moved or passed away, their families continue to come to Jerome and The Verde Valley every year to reminisce and have a great time in Northern Arizona. This reunion typically falls on the 3rd weekend in October.

Hope this helps!

A year on, but just to say, we had a fantastic time, the town was full of atmosphere and our BB Ghost City Inn was excellent. Our dinner at Asylum was so memorable, all the staff in great costumes, and decorations everywhere. We absolutely loved Jerome and so glad we chose to spend two nights there. I much preferred it to Sedona. I loved the hikes in Sedona but really was so disappointed in the town, which we thought lacked atmosphere. Jerome was fun, quirky and really interesting.
