1 night in PE en route to Addo

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a budget guesthouse (R400 ish pp) for a one night stay in PE before we drive to Addo. Have looked at Kragga Kamma game lodge but not so sure about location and if is worth a visit?????

Any suggestions on locations to look at much appreciated!

On the Bay side of Port Elizabeth, if you want to be part of the action (what there is in PE), look for a place in Summerstrand or Humewood.

Pebbles Beach Cottage on the Wild (unpopulated and quiet) side of Port Elizabeth is a lovely relaxing option, away from crowds, with nice walks.

Kragga Kamma is a small game reserve surrounded by small holdings. They have cheetahs in a smallish enclosure that you can drive round in a few minutes. It is most suited to couples with youngish kids, who get bored driving in bigger game reserves for long stretches without seeing anything. The game reserve can be seen in about 1 1/2 hours.

Hi,

I would opt to stay at one of the City Lodge Hotels close to the Boardwalk where the action is and close to the Casino. The area is safe.

Suggest you look at www.citylodge.co.za and select Courtyard or one of the other hotels in this group.

Should you be arriving over a weekend, you could get a special deal by bidding for your hotel room at bid2stay ( approx. half price).

Thanks both for your helpful posts. Think we will give Kragga Kamma a miss (mainly as they are still charging world cup prices despite it been 3 weeks after it has finished) and stay in Port Elizabeth itself.

Have looked at 2 possibilities (both B & B's as they are more within budget)

www.indigobaylodge.co.za

Just wondering if either of these would be fine or if one gets the nod over the other. Carslogie is number 1 on TA but indigo has not yet been reviewed.

Thanks again for your help!!!

Kagga Kamma is not a game lodge. Stayed there a couple of years ago & to be honest wasn't impressed.

Look at www.portfoliocollection.com for a decent selection of B&Bs in Port Elizabeth. You can book online or they will send you a free B&B guide with all contact details.

Hi,

I would suggest that you select Carslogie as it has an official five star grading.

Just a thought... Why do you need to stay in PE.... No need if your arriving at the airport...I picked up the car and drove to Sundays river only about 45 mins.We did our Addo trip from there and it worked really well > Saves more unpacking too!

Hi, we have stayed at Carslogie twice and can thoroughly recommend it. The Admiralty is in the same area, and is also very nice. You can walk to the Boardwalk etc from both. Excellent restaurant calle De Kleder also close by.
