I was wondering what`s the weather like in Johannesbourg and that area of SA in August? I came up to different information on Net so I stayed confused...
Dry, dusty and possibly windy. Sunny. Daytime temperatures up to the low 20s centigrade, nighttime usually down to about 5 centigrade. Probably no frost that late in winter.
Thanks a lot for the answer. And the spring begins in Sep-Oct? It`s much nicer weather then, I assume...
Gets hotter and the rains start. Although the real rainy months are November-March. Late Sept/early October is often a good time in Joburg.
Mid-September to late October sees Joburg at its best, I think. The temperature is warm but nor blistering. All the trees gradually go green (and northern Jhb has an awful lot of trees), and from mid-October the jacarandas - ubiquitous, alien, thirsty but very beautiful - come into bloom. There's always the possibility of rain, of course, but one of the loveliest sights I know is a hillside full of flowering jacarandas against a brooding highveld sky as a thunderstorm moves in!
(I think August is about our worst month if I'm to be honest, but that's because it's so dry: it's certainlynnot what you could call cold, and the sun shines all day.)
Thank you all for your replies. As I concluded, it`s better to visit SA in sept/oct then in August?
Now I know that, and I`m only left to gather the money :) And than see you in that beautiful country of yours... :)
Thanks once again...
Are you asking about SA weather or about Johannesburg? Kruger's weather is very different to Johannesburg, which is very different to Durban, which is different to Cape Town, although they are all colder in winter than summer.
October is quite a good compromise month, if you want to see whales and wildlife and have okay weather.
Yeah, yeah. Maybe I wasn`t clear enough, but I understood you properly. I`m planning to visit only Johannesbourg part of SA, and maybe Swaziland, which is near.
What does "Johannesburg part of South Africa" denote to you? I would assume that the Johannesburg area encompasses - at the most - the province of Gauteng, ie places within approximately 100km of the Johannesburg city centre. Swaziland, at over 300km, is in a somewhat different climate zone.
Having said that, my own preference for travelling anywhere in SA, Swiziland or Lesotho would be Sept/Oct over August. But that's me.
I meant Johannesbourg as the city, but I thought that Swaziland is nearer to it and that the climate is similar there, especially compared to Cape town, which is on the other part of SA.
Either way, I can conclude the same : end of Sep/Oct... Thanks for all the advice.
Enjoy! :-)
