Arriving in Johannesburg international airport early evening then travelling to Hazyview late morning the next day, after picking up family from airport at 11.30 am. Which hotel is most pleasant for a l night stay over?
The City Lodge at OR Tambo airport is the easiest to use. It is actually connected to the Terminal building by a covered walkway. Less expensive and also very good would be the Premier Hotel. It's off-airport and you need transfers between the hotel and the Terminal, but if you book with the hotel, they can set those up. I am not sure if they are free - or if there is a fee.
I like the Southern Sun. Good food options (excellent breakfast), nice enough rooms, free shuttle, free parking if you want to pick up the rental car in the evening. If you join the online membership, you’ll get better rates and a few perks. Or the City Lodge is convenient if you don’t have a car.
If you are watching your budget, there are many guesthouses and BnB's around the airport who offer a rate that is inclusive of breakfast. Most of the hotels around the airport's rates are exclusive of breakfast... just a thought.
bwanadave, Hello, we are your Phoenix neighbors planning a visit to SA. We have a 1 night stopover at the City Lodge Hotel in Johannesburg. Since we will be in transit from a visit to Egypt and on our way to Victoria Falls and Botswana, we are wondering about the advertised laundry facilities at at City Lodge. We may need to freshen up a few things mid trip and prefer doing our own laundry. According to this thread it appears you have stayed there. Do you know? Thanks for any help you can provide.
