Hotel that does not use the foam mattress on their beds

I cannot sleep on a foam mattress and I see all the Protea hotels use foam on their beds. Does any one know decent hotels that use traditional mattresses (I'm wanting a 3 or 4 type hotel fairly close to the airport

Thanks!!

Ask the hotels themselves........Intercontinental, or the hotels at the Emperor's Palace complex, or the Southern Sun, OR Tambo

What do you mean by a 'traditional' mattress? Whose tradition?

Good question, LamLee,

I can think of several traditional and non traditional mattresses or "sleeping surfaces'".

Ancient Egypt.. palm fronds on the ground, or wooden beds

Roman .............stuffed with reeds, or hay

Renaissance ..stuffed with pea shucks or straw or horse hair

Japan ... Futon

African... woven grass sleeping mat on the ground.

Coir (coconut fibre) filled mattress... slept on these during my military service....quite comfy

Coil spring.... introduced in the 1930's.. not really old enough to be traditional?

Foam rubber Dunlopillow, 1929.. at least as "traditional" as the inner spring type

Water..... modern not traditional

Airbed... hardly traditional, very modern

Even spring mattresses have thin foam outer layers so that you can't feel each spring wire. Therefore, if it is an allergy issue, you will find foam in all hotel rooms.

Only the cheap hotels and hostels use a thin solid foam mattress, I doubt that any of the branded hotels use these.

AnnettaK_13, would I be correct in concluding that you are the Annetta Kreijer mentioned on the website of the bnb you are recommending on this resurrected thread? If so, self-promotion is against TA rules.
