Help pick a safari lodge

I am planning a South African honeymoon and need some help picking between safari lodges. Anyone have any advice between Jock Safari Lodge and Savanna private reserve in Sabi Sands?

Is Jock in Kruger or on a private reserve? If it is in Kruger does that mean that they vehicles do not go off-road? Does this affect game viewing?

Thanks

jgustinucci,

I am so glad to hear that you are visiting our beautiful country! South Africa and especially Kruger National Park is the perfect place to spend your honeymoon!

Jock Safari lodge is situated in the greater kruger park. It is a private consession and I believe that they are allowed to drive off-road. Their will be very little difference in luxury between the 2 lodges. The big difference will be the quality of game viewing. With Savanna being situated in the sabi sands, all the animals in that area are much more habituated to game drive vehicles than the animals in the jock consession. When will you be going??

Overall I would go with savanna but no matter which one you choose, you will have a fabulous time!!

Hi there! Jock Safari Lodge is situated on a private concession within the Kruger National Park. While it truly is a beautiful lodge, the game viewing can not be compared to that of a lodge like Savanna in the Sabi Sands. Theoretically the lodges on private concessions (like Jock's) are allowed to drive off road under certain circumstances, but they don't often do it. The lodge is situated in a former wilderness concession, meaning that for many many years no tourists were allowed in that section of the Kruger National Park. The animals in that area are still quite skittish, and in general prefer to keep their distance from game viewing vehicles and people. Compare this to the Sabi Sands, where eco tourism has been practised for many many years, resulting in the animals being extremely relaxed around game viewing vehicles with flashing cameras, etc!

My vote would definately go for Savanna! Which time of the year will you be traveling? Is there any specific reason for you choosing Savanna above many of the other lodges in the Sabi Sands?

We will be traveling at the end of May 2008. We are chosing between these 2 lodges as they appear to offer a higher level of luxury while still being within our budget.

Thanks
