Private Safari

Can anyone suggest a company for doing a Private Safari for myself and 5 friends, I did one in Tanzania a couple of years ago and loved that we could plan our own Itinerary and really just be ourselves while out on the drives.

For the most part, safaris in Tanzania and southern Africa are organised differently. The key difference is that you can drive yourself around on the good roads in South Africa, and visit the national parks, while that is relatively tricky in Tanzania. So you need a driver / guide in Tanzania, but don't in South Africa (until you get to a lodge, and then the lodge's guide will take you round the property / park).

So, book the places you want to stay; arrange transport (eg car, or flights + transfers); and enjoy your trip.

Or, book a private tour with a driver / guide driving you around everywhere. He could pick your party up at Joburg airport and drive to Kruger, say, and then take you round there, whilst you stay at national park properties (self-catering)

There's a current similar thread about the difference between Kruger and private reserves which you might find interesting....

You can drive yourself in the national parks(a.o Kruger) in South africa (not in the private parks). So its as easy as renting a car (any car will do) and book your accomodation (in advance) at sanparks.org.

Either self catering or eating at the restaurants in the main parks is possible.

Cheers and have fun.

If you want the expertise and ease of your own driver and guide, check out Green Bushpig Safaris (www.greenbushpig.co.za). Highly recommended.

For the Kruger National Park, you could contact Wildwings Safaris.

For a slightly different experience you might like to do a game drive at night.

You can go to any of the gates at the Kruger Park and enquire. The cost is a fraction of booking with a private company.

Just be aware to dress warmly- if can get very cold at night.

Hi there,

In terms of 'private safari' are you referring to an exclusive safari for your group, or a from A - Z all inclusive trip including transfers, drinks and so forth? All the best, Jacqui
