Singita Sweni vs Neledi Enkoveni or similar

I've just begun researching a South Africa trip and we'd like to have a few nights in Kruger, of course. Sweni and Lebombo came very highly recommended by an acquaintance, but they are very expensive compared to most other places, including the top-rated properties on Trip Advisor. The only obvious difference is that the Singita properties include drinks, laundry, etc while others do not.

Since there must be other reasons for the price difference, can someone tell me what I am paying for at the Singita properties?

Thanks for your assistance!

I have stayed at Naledi Enkoveni R2,600 ppn but not Singita which at R14,600 pppn is out of my league. A major difference is location. Enkoveni is in the Balule Private Game Reserve which is further north of Singita Sweni which is in the Lebombo concession SE Kruger. Have a look at the latest TA review on Singita Sweni I was curious to see what $$$ gets. Obviously luxury, down to the silver, china, wine director, wine tastings - private, champagne on ice but not french and max 6 guest per game vehicle. Another major difference I think would be exclusivity probably less game vehicles on your patch. Others no doubt will mention the game viewing . Balule has leopard but not in the numbers that occur in south Kruger -e.g. Sabi which you are virtually guaranteed to see as the animals are habituated.

We too are off to Naledi in March 2014

I am sorry but I cannot comment on Singita.

The reason we chose Enkovei was value for money,we spoke with the owner, other reviews and location.

I am sorry but for that amount per night I could not justify 12000rand per night. However if you can afford it why not!

Happy planning

I have stayed at Singita Sweni. In my opinion, the price tag is justified in the wilderness experience that you get when staying at Singita Sweni or Lebombo. Their concession has to be the most beautiful private concession within the Kruger National Park. You can drive for hours enjoying the wildlife, without seeing another vehicle, something that is quite rare to find at good safari destinations (with good game viewing) in South Africa.

If you can afford it why not indeed. At $3,435 AUD a couple per night for Singita, I would expect exclusivity & not expect to see another vehicle , a rarity in Sabi.

Hi there,

Tanya has hit it right on the head - the exclusivity and wilderness experience is what sets that area apart. It's not to say that the other lodges are not exceptional - they are - but that is what the price tag reflects.

When I mentioned exclusivity I also think the attraction of Balule for me is that has the bush/wilderness feeling, it is not so dense with game vehicles and lots of lodges.

To be honest Id happily pay for exclusivity when I win Lotto given the Sabi experience when I was seeing those animals were not happy. But now doubt I shall be told am not an animal behaviourist and the pundits will weigh in . But I know what I saw.

Hi mbernhardt ,

Personally, I think its a very difficult comparison to make, because its a comparison between 2 very different lodges, and extremely different experiences at opposite ends of the rate scale. Just a point of clarification, Singita Sweni and Lebombo are located in a private concession in the Kruger National Park itself and not Sabi Sands. The Singita lodges in Sabi Sands are Boulders and Ebony. I think in so far as exclusivity goes, you will definitely get that at any of the Singita lodges, and the vehicle densities will also be lower as they don't traverse with any other lodges for the most part.

If you can afford Singita, then go for it. I guarantee you won't regret it. There are many other lodges in between the 2 that you could also consider which you give you an equally fantastic experience.

Regards.
