Kruger to start our honeymoon

Hi,

we are planning to spend our honeymoon in SA (we're from Germany) next year Feb. I'm planning to fly to JNB, then drive up to Kruger (I've been in SA before, so I'm used to drive there). We'd like to spend 2-3 days there and then go back to JNB to proceed to Port Elisabeth...

Can you give me some advice regarding romantic safari lodges with googd guided game drives?

Really appreciate your help :-)

Thanks a lot in advance and best regards,

Julia

I know you are requesting a romantic lodge in Kruger but for a romantic 'Hemingway' experience at very affordable price look at Amakhala Quatermains Camp near PE.

Since you are from Germany, you might want to check tui, thomas Cook, holidaycheck.de etc. They sometimes very good deals, you don't get on international sites. For a romantic lodge, dulini and londolozi look amazing, but of course they are the main expensive.

Hi,

you will never get a good deal on a charter flight to South Africa from Germany, other flight seems to be much cheaper, e.g. Lufthansa.

For romantic, hard to beat Dulini. They've had a honeymoon deal where bride gets 50% off her rate. You could ask if they plan to have that deal next year.

Hi there Julia!

Sounds like you have a great itinerary planned for your honeymoon, and of course - congratulations!

I live right here in the Kruger area and often visit the reserves and lodges with my partner, so we LOVE the romantic ones :).

It all does depend on your budget, but my three faves (in different budget ranges) are nThambo Tree Camp (Klaserie Reserve, budget friendly), Arathusa Safari Lodge (Sabi Sands reserve, mid budget range) and Tanda Tula Luxury Tented Camp (Timbavati Reserve, higher budget, but they have a 4 night special that would bring it down to mid budget range).

Hope these help!

Warm regards

There are plenty of romantic lodges to stay in spread right throughout the private reserves. I presume you are after a private reserve as you want guided game drives.

You will naturally get people here recommending their favorites that they have stayed at, and ours is Dulini, it is very intimate with only six gorgeous rooms, each one like a small lodge itself, overlooking the bush with lots of glass and a private plunge pool at the door. Beautiful peaceful and romantic ambience, every time we have been there we meet honeymooners. Wonderful people and food too.

Also with only twelve guests between two game drive vehicles, meaning six per truck, you will always have only two people across the seat on your drives, rather than a third person sharing. This is something we always go for, and for honeymooners it's even nicer.

Lots of choices though, have you read through the T/A reviews?

Remember the popular lodges book up early, even though February seems a long way off, do not leave it too late to decide.

Hi,

thank you so much for all your answers. As we (or let's better say I) proceed with bour planning I started wondering if we should go to Kruger at all.

As we only want to spent 2-3 days on safari, wouldn't a safari lodge 'somewhere more southwards' be better? So that we would arrive in Jo'burg, but then fly to PE or Durban and then drive to safari lodge? That would already be in the roght direction towards Garden Route, Winelands and Cape Town. And being in a smaller private Game reserve would enhance our chance to see the Big 5 within 2 or days, or not?

These things came up my mind during the last days. What would you experts suggest?

Best regards, Julia
