Best place to stay for 1 night in Blyde River Canyon Area

We are getting married in South Africa (Cape Winelands) in December and are taking this opportunity to do 4 nights safari at Sabi Sabi and then need somewhere to stay the following night (11th December) which will be ideally placed for seeing Blyde River Canyon area.

Flight the following day is from Nelspruit at 11:45 so I need to allow enough time to get to teh airport for flight to Vilanculos. We are honeymooning at Azura on Benguerra Island before returning to the UK.

Hopefully we can see most things in the 24 hours we are in the region. I am hiring a car as and maybe Sabi Sabi is not too far from some of the areas of interest to allow further exploration whilst we are in the area.

If anyone can recommend a nice restaurant in the area and places to stay, things to see I would appreciate it.

The ideal place to stay when coming from Sabie Sands and wanting to explore the Panorama Route, Blyde River Canyon etc is IMHO Hazyview.

You are very close to the Canyon and for the next day only app. 60 km to Nelspruit airport.

One place i adore but have not been to yet is:

http://www.flycatchercastle.com/ in Graskop. Just a bit more driving to the airport.

otherwise, there is a good number of nice places for your honeymoon in Hazyview.

If you dont feel like a romatic dinner at the Lodge/B&B/Guesthouse, have a look at Summerfields Kitchen. Definitely the best restaurant in town.

You could have a look at: http://www.foreverblydecanyon.co.za/

It has the advantage of being right at the canyon. So too is its sister resort, but this one is at the bottom of the escarpment:

You might also think of the Royal Hotel in Pilgroims Rest, although the very historic town, which as a whole has been declared a National Monument, has become a bit of a tourist trap. See: http://www.pilgrimsrest.org.za/royal.htm

Scroll down on this page and you will find a list of many of the attractions of the Panorama Route.

As for places to eat - you cannot possibly "do" the Panorama Route without stopping for a pancake at Harries's (or Harry's) Pancakes (sa-venues.com/things-to-do/…) in the main road of Graskop.

with all due respect, and I do not know your budget, but believe the resort is not what you are looking for when on honeymoon.

Harry's pancake I agree is a must for lunch when in ther area.

This is my favourite place to stay at Blyde River. The resort is right at the top of the Canyon and has an incredible lookout point over the dam. It is reasonable and offers different accomodation options.
