Planning route after leaving Kruger on way back to Joburg

We will have 6 nights left when we leave Kruger in October and plan to stay at Graskop, maybe Lydenburg and Dullstroom but may also stay somewhere more north. Any ideas of where else may be worth incorporating into our itinery on the way back to the airport including an overnight stop?

Yes, Forever resorts Swadini. It is unrivalled in what it offers. Really, really great scenery at the foot of the Drakensberg mountains' northern tip.

Highly recommended. Take a boat ride on the river (ask at reception), hike around the resort or chill in the three hot and cold swimming pools.

It is near the Orpen gate of the Kruger park. Where will you exit?

thanks for the idea - we are exiting via Mumbi gate and then going to Graskop probably so easy to move north from there.

Goodness, if you want to go to Graskop, Numbi gate is the worst possible idea.

Rather exit at Phabeni or Kruger gate. Or btter yet, Orpen gate if indeed you want to go to Swadini

Then you miss the horrific road between Hazyview and Hoedspruit. Cows and goats all over the place, not a pleasure to drive between these towns.

What about Pilgrims Rest , the old mining town. The whole town is a museum and very interesting.

How about stopping off in the gorgeous little town of Waterval Boven?

Depending on your interests, the majority of attractions in the area are in the Lowveld region, and of course there is the Panorama Route along the escarpment. If you have 6 days, I would plan for at least 2 nights in the Hazyview area or even Sabie. From here you can do a cultural village, elephant experience, tree top high wire tour and various other adventure pursuits, Sudwala caves even. Then two nights at either Moholoholo or Swadini as Navigator suggested. Another great place further north is Otters Den on the lower Blyde River. In this area there is the awesome scenery, the Blyde dam, wildlife rehab centre, elephant back safaris, hot air balloon flight, etc. Then head to the Panorama route and overnight in Graskop or Pilgrims Rest. From here it is 4 hours to Joburg, if time allows you can spend a night in the Dullstroom area. Different scenery again, less to do but if you like fly fishing (trout) then this area is a must.

Whether you go out at Numbi gate, Phabeni gate or Kruger Gate is not a big difference. Depends which camp you are coming from and where you are headed.
