9 nights in S.A Garden route

Last minute holiday late October to November 7th

Have been recommended 2 nights in Fransshoek to relax, enjoy wine , and then have been recommended a night in Montagu and a following in Outshoorn, moving on to Knysna /Plettenberg bay, then finishing in Hermanus for 3 nights.

We are hoping for wine, whales, not penguins, willdlife (not a safari this holiday) We liive inLondon and do not enjoy busy city life, esp on holiday. Definitely no shopping wanted. Decided against Hermanus as much more interested in staying in smaller places on route ( less tourist the better in terms of gyms and golf courses) do not think Outshoorn is worth stop as fairly close to Montagu and prefer to explore where we can. My inclination is to drop staying in Outshoorn and crack on to Knynsa from Montagu

Any tips especially last part of trip from Knynsa for last 3 nights where we should go for Whales ( away from Hermanus). We are keen to also see any worthwhile wildlife projects ( rehabilitation)

Any advice very welcome for these first time S.A visitors and very last minute

Go to De Kelders (Walker Bay) for whales. Wonderful spot and great views. Much better than Hermanus (very quiet), only one restaurant in the village (very good) though not far to drive to others.

Have a look at Witsand or De Hoop NR, Infanta, Arniston, Agulhas, less touristy & instead of Robertson look at McGregor, all are hidden jewels.

We have stayed at Whalesong Lodge in de kelders twice now. They cook some nights (great food) but otherwise the restaurant is really good (its called something like Kloeks at Home). Whalesong might be a bit expensive but the views from the lounge and terrace are spectacular. The Honeymoon suite is unbelievable. I know there are loads of other places but can't comment on any of the others.
