Cape Town - Not much time

We've basically got 48 hours in Cape Town before we move on to Port Elizabeth and safari. We're on our honeymoon and want to make the most of our short time there. We definitely want to do Table Mountain and the Waterfront area but were hoping for some reccomendations as to what else is must see / must do??

I have just got back from CT and I'd recommend a hire car to get you around and also let the weather decide what you do. If good weather is forecast get up Table Mountain or go to Robben Island (you need to book Robben Island in advance), take a 1/2 day township tour or visit the district 6 museum. The trip down to Cape of Good Hope/Cape Point is worth it but you need at least 3 hrs for this (pref more). The bottom line is be flexible. The touristy V&A Waterfront has plenty of shops, bars & restaurants to keep you occupied. At night check out the Green Dolphin at V&A for superb live jazz music in the pm even if its just for a beer. Long street is lively and has plenty of good restaurants and bars, or try Camps Bay for a few drinks at sunset.

Remember that you are on honeymoon. You won't be able to do everything, so don't even try.

Table mountain is a must. So is the round tour to Cape Point. After that, if the weather is good, like it is today, head for Quay Four at the Waterfront. Have a long, leisurely lunch and take in the sights, sound and smells.

When you can, please come back to Cape Town for at least a week.

Have a good trip!

Hi, hope you have a wonderul honeymoon.

It would actually be great if you can hire a car for the day, because then I would take the drive to Cape Point, but take it slowly Perhaps on your way there, take the M 5 to Muizenberg, drive along the beach road travelling through Muizenberg, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek, Simonstown, Boulders (Penquins) and then to Cape Point Nature reserve. Return by going the other way back to Cape Town where you would see Kommetjie, Scarborough, Noordhoek, then over Chapmans Peak to Hout Bay and if you have time take in a bit of the Constantia wine country. Could be a very long but lovely day.

If you're pushed for time, don't bother going into Cape Point Reserve. The views on the drive there are the best - if you don't have time for a walk in the reserve there's no point in paying the entrance fee. Don't forget to go over Chapman's Peak on your way back (there is a toll road charge of about R25). And stop at Boulders Beach (Simonstown - its signposted) to see the penguins. You also don't need to pay to go in there - you can just walk around and view the penguins. Saves you time and money and is just as good.
