Hotel near Victoria and Alfred

Silversea uses Victoria and Alfred but charges per person - I feel silly paying twice as much to share a room... Is there anything close that would be more economical? Thanks!

Most large hotels in South Africa charge on a "per person sharing" basis not per room. This is bed and beakfast rate and is based on double occupancy. If you are a single occupying a room you pay a single rate which is normally at least 50-70 percent more than pps - but only one breakfast. So you are not paying twice to share a room!

On the other hand the hotels at the Waterfront - the V&A, Table Bay, Cape Grace and One and Only are some of the most expensive hotels in Cape Town. There are dozens of other much cheaper options in many areas of the city. Especially great value in Cape Town are the smaller boutique style hotels and wonderful owner run guesthouses. Much cheaper than the waterfront hotels but still charging on a pps basis.

Look at the hotel reviews on TA via the link on the left of this page. Nine out of the top ten hotels in Cape Town are of this type.

The City Lodge, V & A Waterfront (www.citylodge.co.za) is very reasonable, also Breakwater Lodge, both within walking distance of Victoria and Alfred.
