The easiest way is probably to have someone like Kestrel ( http://www.kestrelservices.co.za/index.htm ) drive you.

Cheaper would be to hire a car and drive yourself.

There is also a train service which takes about 75 minutes. (You would alos need to get from the V&A to the station)

Stellenbosch is only an hour (tops) from Cape Town so a transfer is not hard & not expensive - approx. ZAR 450 for a private car with Avis Point to Point service (very reliable).

Depends however on where in Stellenbosch you are staying. If you are not central you may feel a little isolated without a car, so self-drive is also a good option. Easy drive.

Are there any wine farms in walking distance of the town?

Hi C&M

Here is a posting with a list of all Wine Estates within about a 2 mile walk of Stellenbosch town :

However unless you really have to walk, you are missing nearly all the best estates. There are around 200 that can be visited in the Stellenbosch Wine Route area, within about a 10 mile radius of the town. You just need to learn to taste and spit. Remember professional wine tasters often taste (and are able to appreciate) 200 or more wines in a day - and then drive home!
