Whale Watching... or Fishing in cape town..

Hello there, We would like to go Whale watching.. whats the best way to do it? can we do it in specialized boats? and is there any boat services that let us FISH and cook our catch for the day using their equipments?

Yes, you can do whale watching in a boat.....Whale season is from June to end November. You can do a great full day Whale tour - land based and then have an option of going on a boat....they can not go nearer than 50m but most cases the Southern Right Whale is very nosy and will come very close to the boat. You might be lucky to see Southern Right Whales and Humpback whales.

See my reply to your other post. The best whale watching is around Hermanus or Gansbaii, from where you can go on a whale watching boat. Or you can walk on the cliffs and see them very close to the shore.

Just make sure you are here when they are visiting though!

Here's the web site for the original company providing boat-based whale watching: http://www.whalewatchingsa.co.za/ Ivanhoe Sea Safaris was started by a good friend of mine who is now retired. The current owners were all trained by him.

It's based in Gansbaai - about 2 hour drive from Cape Town.
