Thanks very much for this
It will be very nice to see those new buses that have been parked under the N1 for the last 12 months put to use. Viva MyCity!!!
How did this work out - five months on? Is the MyCiti Bus running and is it a safe alternative for travelling around town? We'll be based in Fish Hoek but doing two sets of three days in Sea Point - we're not planning on renting a vehicle. We've purchased Hop - On Hop - Off tickets on both routes and I'm thinking maybe that'll be enough for our two Sea Point stays? Many thanks for any help.
Capetonians love the Mycitibus which is absolutely safe. The route has now been extended and further ones are being planned. This bus can be used for travelling around town (not Sea Point) as it goes from the Civic Centre to Waterfront and Gardens. There are feeder routes to Blouberg Strand.
There is another bus which is also clean and safe and this runs to and from Sea Point from the city and the fare is around R6. If you want to visit the tourist sites that include Table Mountain, Hout Bay etc. then you need tickets for the Hop-on-hop-off bus. However, you need a car to go to Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve; this is a day trip (can also be done through one of the tour companies but costs about R700 per person).
Hi - this is interesting; I just wondered what time the last bus runs in the evening say from Gardens back to the Waterfront.Edited: 20 October 2011, 09:03
The last bus from Gardens to Civic Centre runs on weekdays at 8.02 p.m., Saturdays 6.42 p.m. and Sundays 7.42 p.m. During peak hours there is an interval between departures of 10 mins and non-peak 20 mins.
There is a very nice bus which runs from the beginning of Bantry Bay or end of Sea Point however you want to call it (outside the Peninsula Hotel) along the beachfront to the Waterfront and back along the same route. The cost of the bus is R8 o/w. Very good and very safe and it runs every 20 minutes.
several of you mentioning the bus as being 'safe'. What could be unsafe about a public bus? Is it the state of the vehicle, the passengers ??
We have miniBUS taxis here (locally referred to as "Black taxis") which are unsafe. The drivers frequently do not obey road signs and some don't have driver's licenses.
Thank you all so much for your responses. Diva, it's nice to know about that bus between Sea Point and Bantry Bay. I'm sure we'll take it. And thanks for the info about Black taxis. Should any taxi we take be Rikki's? Are there several reputable cab companies or just one? Thanks again!
