Need help building out itinerary

Hello, my husband and I are planning our honeymoon in late July 2012. We've already booked our flights and we actually have more time than anticipated! Could use some recommendations for the extra 2 days:

Day 1: Arrive in Johannesburg, fly to CT for mid afternoon arrival (couldn't get direct CT flight)

Day 2: CT

Day 3: CT

Day 4: CT

Day 5: Drive to Winelands - Franschhoek Country House

Days 6: Drive to Knysna - Kanonkop House

Day 7:Knysna - Kanonkop House

Day 8: Fly to Kruger - Sabi Sands - Simbambili Lodge

Day 9: Sabi Sands - Simbambili Lodge

Day 10: Sabi Sands - Simbambili Lodge

We have 2 more full days before we have to fly back to Johannesburg (though we may need one of those days to spend in Johannesburg if we can't get back to the airport in time to catch our evening flight home -- is 2 hours enough for an international flight? Is it worth spending a day in Johannesburg?

Any advice on where we should spend an extra day or 2? Safari, the Winelands, or another spot on the Garden Route? We're on a budget, but of course we're not complaining we have 2 extra days!

Thank you!

I would suggest Day 4 drive to winelands. Then Day 5 drive to Oudtshoorn. Lots to see here including outrich farms. We stayed at B/B 88 Baron Van Reede Guesthouse which was very reasonable and worth it.

Also have you looked at the Elephant place near Knysna.

Some of the things you asked about your agent should have told you.. or someone should have.

This you may know - but getting to Simbabili from Knysna will require an early flight, probably from George, to Johannesburg. Change planes and fly on to Hoedspruit. It will push you to get to Simbambili in time for the afternoon game drive but it is possible.

From Simbambili, you would normally have the morning game drive and then be taken to the Hoedspruit airport to fly to JNB in the early afternoon. No worry about being there in time for your flight home.

But it might interest you to use one of your days in Johannesburg. Better to do it at the start, so you could see a couple of the interesting sights there, get over the 10,000 mile trip. Then go to Cape Town.

I have another question: does it make sense to have a car for all days in Cape Town or can we easily get by without a car on any of the days?

You don't need a car in Cape Town. Take the hop on hop off bus for the city local stuff, and book day trips to Cape Point and the Winelands. Hire a car on Day 4 once you head out there. Go stay in Franschhoek two nights, Rusthof Guest House is great, but also consider Alluvia up on Helshoogte Pass. They have a golf green you can hit to shaped like a heart...

I would definitely suggest hiring a car for the full duration of your stay. July is winter and if it is pouring with rain you dont want to be on the "HOHO" bus. Also it depends what you want to do and where you are going to be staying as regards the car but for R200 a day I would definitely suggest hiring the car and having the flexibility of doing what you want and when.
