There is a lovely little place at the bottom of Red Hill (the other side of the mountain in Simonstown) called Gina's African Art. They have a lovely selection of African Art etc and there are two African Art manufacturers next door to Gina's.

My clients love stopping there and always walk away something.

African Gift Ideas

Original T-Bag Designs helps many poorer families. T-Bags are collected dried and hand painted to make many different crafts eg coasters boxes handbags decoration. A very worthwhile cause situated in Hout Bay.

Another suggestion is Street Wires. Another program to help youths make some money. I think it is in Short Market St. Cape Town. Great wire and bead products. Christmas decorations, wall decorations etc. higher quality things from here.

There is a nice gift shop in the Stellenbosch Gardens with many gift ideas and the gardens are a must see.

You can download a Cape Town Craft Shopping Map here: cape-town-guide.com/support-files/cape-town-… (Due to high resolution the download takes a while).

This map lets you find exclusive craft shops selling 40-100% of hand made designer products produced in the Western Cape.

Hi There,

I agree with Pam. The T-Bag project makes lovely gifts. You could also try Street Wires if you would like some handmade beaded crafts. You can get picture frames, key-rings and much more. Their website is http://streetwires.co.za/

Goodluck!

If you get to Kirstenbosch Gardens they have a lovely shop with a big selection of interesting things to buy. I often used to buy gifts there.

I would suggest:

1. Monkey Biz, a collective of women artists many of whom are HIV affected. Beadwork. They have a shop on Rose Street in BoKap. Not -for - profit.

http://www.monkeybiz.co.za/

2. You will need a township tour guide and car to take you to the Philani Philani Development Centre, Weaving Project Shop, Phaphani Street,

Khayelitsha, Site C, Cape Town. Not - for - profit.

3. If you are in Cape Town the hopefully still operating Sunday Green Point Craft Market is popular.

For me the find, often difficult are Zimbabwean Story Panels created by the Waya people. This is what the look like on Ebay. Better to find on the street if you can.
