Cape Town to PLZ - 6 days

Hi everyone,

Just looking for some tips as reading some of the other forum articles, it seems like we might have quite a lot of time to do a relatively short trip....

We have planned a trip in April starting with 3 nights in CPT. The next bit that is booked is a safari at Shamwari 6 days later. The question I have is what do you suggest would be a good itinerary for those 6 days? We don't really have a clue where to overnight etc. We want to see as much as possible - ideally would love to incorporate whale watching (not sure it's the right time of year?), a cheetah sanctuary, ostrich farm, shark diving (or viewing if we're not brave enough), penguins and anything else. As you can see, we're pretty into nature but also love scenic views, craft markets and would love to incorporate a side trip to the Cape of Good Hope etc.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

So do you have 6 days to spend after your 3 days in Cape Town? However, forget the whales & I think it's also the wrong time for sharks. There is a cheetah sanctuary near Somerset West. The penguins & Cape Point you can do in a day trip from Cape Town.

To get to Shamwari head down the garden route via Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Robertson, Route 62 to Montagu, Oudtshoorn, George, Knysna, Plet, PE. There's lots to see & do on the way & some great overnight stops.

Not alot of time if you want to do and see everything the garden route has to offer (-:. I'd actually add another day in CT and do the cape point/cape of good hope as a day trip - this would include the penguins at Boulders beach and you can do sharkcage diving from Simonstown.

The whales will be far gone by then, so I'd suggest you take the inland R62 route to garden route/ Shamwari.

So 3/4nights CT, then spend 1/2 nights in Stellenbosch/Franschoek for winelands visit (cheetah sanctuary easy to reach from either of these towns), drive R62 toward Oudtshoorn, spend 1 night for ostrich farm/Meerkat adventures/Cango caves, drive on to Knysna (2 nights), drive to stormsriver (spend 1 night), drive to Shamwari.

If you don't want to do this many stops, I'd suggest you visit Constantia area for wine whilst in CT and you can visit cheetah sanctuary on way to Oudtshoorn or as day trip from CT, then drive to Oudsthoorn spend 1 night and there after spend remaining nights in Knysna or Plett before moving on to Shamwari.
