Moving around Cape Town. Best options? Car, taxi?

What is the most affordable way to move in cape town through the beaches and attractions? By hiring car, by taxi, metro, bus?

Thank you in advance for any tips

You need to consider what you want to do. The HOHO Bus and "My City" buses are very good and take you to a lot of the sights you might want to see.Ifyouwant to go to the Cape of Good Hope then you either need a car or take a guided trip. Same for the winelands of Stellenbosch etc. The HOHO bus does take you to the Constantia Wine Estates. We took the train to some of the resorts as far as Simonstown on the Peninsular but i wouldn't recommend that at night. Also use the Metro Plus (1st class) part of the train. Still pretty awful with graffiti etc. but IMO fairly safe. We actually had a car for the whole time we were there but if we wanted to have a drink then we took the other options!!!

I just saw a brochure of city sightseeing bus, the red bus, and it seemed fair enough to get to he main places but it covers all in just 2-days... Itcosts 250 rands and covers city tour, including table mountain, a peninsula tour including a wine tour starting at constantia nek, a sunset tour to signal hill and a cruise in waterfront. For 2 days seem quite a good option....

Yes, that's the HOHO bus I mentioned. Does not go right to the Cape of Good Hope though!!!

We use the HOHO bus for central Cape Town but you can get a taxi to the centre of town and visit everything on foot from there, we usually stay 3 nights in the city then rent a car to visit the surrounding areas and stay outside the city.

Get on the red Hop on Hop off busses for an orientation http://goo.gl/NbtSK and then decide where you want to explore more.

Some places you can only go with a car or taxi. Our commuter taxis are cheap, or take a tourist taxi, they charge as much as R10 per km. If you are willing to wait for commuter taxis to fill up then you'll pay next to nothing.

Most places busses will be good for you.

Going to Muizenberg, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and Simon's Town use the train http://goo.gl/dcGZl It's cheap, and they have a two day pass.
