Getting to boulders beach

Hi there. We are staying in the Sea Point area and was wondering what is the best way to get to Boulders beach to see the penguins on our own? Thanks. Jill

You can rent a car for your stay in Cape Town or you can use a transfer there and back, but that will cost you about a R1000 for a return. The other option that you have is, to make your way to the train station from Sea Point, buy a return Simons Town ticket and use the train. Then walk from the station in Simons Town Station to Bolders Beach which can easily be a 40min walk all a long the main road, but with loads of old historical buildings and sightseeing.

I agree with Hank about the train. It's one of the most scenic drives along the coast. If you can do it on a Sunday you can even go via Steam Train. This is very popular and you need to book. http://goo.gl/jVj0G

The walk can be though but it's mostly through the historic town of Simon's Town.

The train trip from CT to Simonstown is wonderful. We have done it several times and it is inexpensive and a great way to see the sights. Some hints. Make sure you get in the Metro Plus carriages - these are the ones nearest CT in whichever direction you are travelling. They are supposed to be SA's version of first class but they are still not brilliant with grafiti etc. Sit on the left out of CT (nearest the sea) for the best views. Stop off at Kalk Bay in either direction for lunch at The Brass Bell which is right on the station platform. The alternative of driving is of course a wonderful way of seeing all the peninsular whereas the train only goes as far as Simonstown. We have done it by car a few times as well - we never get tired of visiting these places. Enjoy. We are returning for our 4th trip in January!!

Just to hijack the thread a bit....what would a taxi from Boulders down to Cape Point cost one way?

Thank you for your courtesy.

There is no taxi's from Simons Town or Bolders Beach to Cape Point or the other way back from Cape Point. The best way for you to get there is via a rental car or you will have to do a day tour with a tour operator from the City of Cape Town. You have the choice to do it in a half day tour or within a full day tour.
