Cape Town in Early July - Worth a Safari Extension?

We are going to Tanzania for the second half of June next year. Now, we've decided that since we are already in Africa, we really should go down to Cape Town when the safari is over. It adds about $600 to the air fare, so seemed like it made sense, because just getting to Africa is about 4 times that amount from where we live.

I'm reading that July is cold and rainy, though. Do you think it's worth going even so? The temp does not bother me as much as worry about visibility - since the scenery is a very important part of a visit there.

The Cape Weather is supposed to be cool, and rainy during Winter.

Having said that, one can have glorious, sunny days as well.

In fact, sometimes four seasons in one day.

Well worth taking the risk, because the bad weather usually lasts only a few days at a time. It is largely dependent on cold fronts, which come in a north easterly direction, bringing cool/windy/ rainy weather. As the cold front moves inland, the weather clears up, until the next one comes along.

Often, there is fine, warm weather ahead of the cold front, as well.

Cape Town's weather is always a bit unpredictable in winter, having said that you can still have beautiful sunny days. It is a bit luck of the draw. July is usually better weather than August IMO. And just to add, Cape Town is always worth a visit!
