how best to get to Myoga - taxi

Hi

I have been looking at the restaurant reviews and really would like to go to Myoga whilst in Cape Town, however we are staying at the President hotel in Bantry Bay and goole maps say it is around 20kms from there. What would be the best way to get there given we won't have a hire car. Going by previous posts a taxi might cost 198 rand or £12 each way which seems a little expensive compared to the price for the restaurant... does this sound about right?

I cannot comment on taxi costs in Cape Town, but that rate seems comparable to the rate in Johannesburg over a similar distance ( in fact, a little cheaper than Johannesburg).

The shortest route, between The President in Sea Point, and the Restaurant in Newlands is 15.9 Km, according to my Garmin.

Yes, approximately R200 each way does sound right. That is what most taxi companies here would charge for that journey. I tend to use a company called Cabs on Call as they offer a good rate. Perhaps give them a call and see how they compare in price.

When getting into the taxi ask the driver upfront how much it will cost - they usually give you a pretty good estimate, and make sure that the taxi meter is turned on so you can see the charge as the taxi drives.

Myoga is a lovely restaurant. Enjoy!

Most of the taxis charge a rate at about R9 - R11 per kilometer and never ask a taxi to wait for you, they will charge you a waiting fee and can cost you a lot of money. Have a look at some of the companies here on the Tripadvisor forum and send them an email for some quotes and see what they offer.

aGREE with Hank. It is about 20km away from the President Hotel. If you are not hiring a car, the taxi is the only alternative unless you want to take a train ?(DURING THE DAY) to Newlands and then a cab from Newlands Station which will just be maybe 3-5km. to Myoga which is at the Vineyard Hotel. Definitely dont chance a train at night. The President Hotel has a shuttle which might drop you in the centre of town which would save you about 7km. (R70). The cabs are R9 -R11 per km.
