Alternative to Hermanus?

We are spending 2 night in the Overberg as part of our honeymoon in November 2006. Hermanus is the obvious choice but the accomodation seems to be very expensive and we've heard rumours that Hermanus can be a bit touristy at that time of year.

Can anyone reccommend an alternative in that neck of the woods or positive feedback on Hermanus and some reasonably priced guesthouse accomodation? Any tips would be much appreciated.

If you have never been to Hermanus before, then I would definitely stay there for 2 nights. It's true that it's a bit touristy that time of year, but still a lovely place to be. If you want a real budget accommodation, then go for the Hermanus Backpackers http://www.hermanusbackpackers.co.za/. But I don't know if that is a nice option for a honeymoon ;) The Brown Jug is a 3 star Guest House with reasonable prices...Have a look at southafrica-stay.com for The Brown Jug and other options in Hermanus. The closest village to Hermanus is Onrus. How about this accommodation: www.hermanus-onrus-accommodation.co.za/ Not too cheap, but looks lovely. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Enjoy :)

We've just returned from a trip to South Africa and stopped in Hermanus for 1 night en route to Cape Town. We stopped in a guest house called Auberge Burgundy which seemd very reasonably priced and in a good position overlooking the sea. We upgraded to a suite at very little cost and it was enormous, with a kitchen. living room, huge bedroom with walk-in dressing room and decent sized bathroom.

It is within minutes walk of the shops and restaurants and has its own restaurant opposite.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful and I would recommend this.

Even if it is full of tourists it is lovely and money well spend. The Auberge burgundy is a lovely guesthouse. There are self catering apartments with a stunning seaview. The one is budget and the other one more luxury but the view is out of this world. Just make sure it is a seaview apartment. There are many restaurants within walking distance.
