Hi - going to Belek shortly, staying at Gloria Serenity and a bit confused as to what currency to take. Can anyone help?

Thanks

From what I have gathered having asked the same question the general consensus seems to be to take lira, ebough to get you through the first day or say and then echange money in Turkey as the rate can be better there.

But dont forget you will need £10 sterling for each person in your party to pay for the visa at the airport.

Hi Warey, yes good advice from coachcandy.

Take a few pounds worth of Lira with you to see you through first day or so for tips and such, then go into Belek town where you will see exchange offices .In them you can change Sterling for Lira .You will get a better rate over there ,also if you shop around the offices ,which are very near each other you will see the one who is offering the best rate. Take only Sterling notes that have no tears or writing on them as they will not accept them because it is a crime to deface Turkish currency . When you wish to buy in the shops or market ,you will see that most stuff is priced in Euro ,this is to benifit the trders as they can set the rate to suit them self and they price everything to the nearest whole number. Ask for a price in Lira and they will give it ,any who does not just walk away as they are really not worth dealing with ,most will soon give you what you want .This way you will always save money . Dont forget to haggle for eveything ,even in the shops .If it has a priced maked on it then they will not move on the prices .

Hope this is some help to you.

You will always get a better deal when using Lira and by changing it over there you will get a better rate of exchange .This has worked for me 2/3 times a year for over twenty now .Even before the introduction of the euro I always changed my money in Turkey . The Riu Kaya is nearer to Kadriye than Belek .There are exchanges and AT Ms there as well as Belek .You would be better getting a taxi to both. There is a market in Belek on a Saturday and a market in Kadriye on a Tuesday ,so if you go on one of these days you can do a bit of shopping at the same time
