Electricty in hotel rooms

Staying at tower hotel in 10 days,

i'm going to get plug in mosquito repellant thing and will want to charge phone, laptop etc in room.

Does anyone know if you have to leave your room key in to have electricity on?

Most hotels you need the Key for the Electric to stay on, Dont leave anything like phones or Laptops out in view in your room when your not present, Put them in your suitcase and lock it, And remember you will need a 2pin European adapter.

It's normally easy enough to get around the 'key' requirement for electricity. Pretty much any plastic card shoved in the slot will do the job. Out of date credit/debit/store cards normally work a treat.

I do agree with the comment about not leaving valuables laying around when you're out, but you do want the mozzie killer to work when you are out.

Shame hotels are using the all in one card as just a few years ago you got your room key and card and we then used to go out leaving the card in the slot to keep the air con on so we came back to a cool room.

Will the mini bar/fridge go off once the card is removed?

The Fridges and Mini-bars are normally on a different circuit so stay on when the card is removed.

'Normally on a different circuit' but I have come across some Greek hotels where the fridge went off when the key was removed! :-(

Worth taking some spare cards to put in the slot just in case.

Thanks - will take an old tesco clubcard. Nothing worse than warm Diet Coke in your Bacardi for that apertiff on the balcony before dinner!
