We take about £50 in Lira for immediate expenses once there, tipping etc and then get lira from ATMs as we go as it saves us transporting a lot of cash and any hassle or doubt about exchange rate/fiddles as you get current rate from bank...

Hi got back from olu deniz a week ago we took £200 in lira the rest in english got just a bit more then we did at marks & spencers 2.55 lira to £. Plenty of money exchange places but be very careful check the rate & count your money before you leave the shop as we got ripped off in the one on the main street opposite josephs bar, he count out the money really quiclky in 10.s & 20's when we checked later we were 20 lira short. Spoke to other people same happened to them, also trys to charge tax on travellers checks.

Hi all

Anyone wanting to change money but worried about being short changed should go Gladys and Ali in the handbag shop at the top of the strip almost opposite the Karbel Supermarket. We went there twice whilst on holiday in Sept and saw Ali both times,he is very pleasant and nice to chat to and will not short change you.
