I've stayed at Kalkan which was lovely. Stayed at a wonderful hotel last year outside of marmaris but hated marmaris itself. Back to olu this year but think we will venture to Dalyan next year.

Kalkan has a very small man made beach, didn't go on it though. People tend to use bathing platform area's, we did use one right next to the harbour which was nice. There was also quite a good restaurant attached. Kalkan has lots of fab restaurants. One thing to remember is Kalkan, especially the old part/harbour is built on an incline so although very quaint not so good if you have walking difficulties.

Have to agree re Kalkan, lovely place but the legs have to be spot on.

Olympus / Cirali (via Antalya airport) very similar to how Oludeniz looked 20 years ago- may be a little too quiet for some - but nevertheless somewhere to consider for the future.

We went to Kalkan last year to try it out as a change from Oludeniz. Won't go again! We had a good holiday but found every thing too spread out; whereas in Oludeniz it's all within a few minutes walk. The nightly drag back up "cardiac hill" was certainly good exercise!

The hotel we went to, the Elixir boutique hotel, was lovely; and the barman, Pumpkin, was a gem. He entertained us all in the evenings when we got back from eating. Wish we could move the hotel and staff to Oludeniz! (Can't complain about the hotels in OD mind you.)

I agree with Codfathers comments

If you want to see a place were time has stood still in Turkey and experience what Turkey used to be like about 15 to 20 yrs ago before the influx of all-inclusive and package holidays of the last decade, then Cirali is the place for this..

Cirali is a great little village, nice clean beach and a mix of sand and pebbles, ruins of Olympos and the flames of "Chimaera" the world''s oldest and best-known natural "eternal flame".

No mass tourism or 5 star hotels. Just nice family own hotels and pansiyons. Small shops, quiet bars, restaurants, and no discos. It is more of a place for nature lovers and chilling out. It can be too quiet for some if you are looking for more in the way of and actiive nightlife..

Cirali is centrally located between Antalya and Kas and you can travel farily easily to visit nearby historical areas.

In Cirali there are ..boat trips, snorkelling, long walks, day trips to nearby Kemer or Kumluca to visit local markets, biking, and of course relaxation...not to mention the historical ruins to explore..plenty to keep ones self busy for a week or two.

Also nearby to Çıralı is the Ulupınar region, which is rich in rivers and creeks.

Canmom, fell in love with the Olympus village as the river runs into the sea with the Roman ruins on the riverside, a sight to behold and pretty spectacular. Loved the village too very Popeye village atmosphere with the shack type buildings - having been to the real Popeye movie set in Malta - it was almost identical!
