Argentina

there are two of us going to Buenosaires in May. We only have seven days and have been advised to visit el calafate and we want to go to the Iguazu Falls as well. We will be flying in from Rio.Wondering whether to book a guide as we are limited and dont want to waste time. Any advice about the order we do this in and are we better booking individual flights or with LAN. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thankyou

Seven days is not much time considering amount of territy which you would like to cover.

Iguazu should be booked from Rio since it is on the way to Buenos Aires. If you stay at the Sheraton Hotel which is located in the Argentine Park then you can see the falls area in Argentina in one day. It is not necessary to have a guide here since the park is set up for independent visit.

From Iguazu, then you can fly to Buenos Aires. The city offers hop on/off bus for an overview(www.bue.gov.ar) and then walking tours. You should consider staying in the Recoleta neighborhood for a good central location and excellent services.

Calafate requires a flight from Buenos Aires. Remember that May is the starting of Winter in the Southern Hemisphere so Calafate will be cold;so pack accordingly. If you want to visit the Perito Moreno glacier then book a tour group ahead of time(www.welcomeargentina.com,www,interpatagonia.com). This visit can be accomplished in 2 days if limited to the glacier. If you want to visit more places like El Chalten then you would need to add days.

Have fun with your holiday planning.

Hola!

I think Ricardo gave you great advise.

I would just add that probably you can do Iguazu 2 days, Buenos Aires 3 days, Calafate 2 days.

Certainly you would be saving lots of time if you hire a private tour to the glacier the same day of your arrival in Calafate, so that you can fly back to BA next morning. But this is a lot of rush.

Be careful with long weekends (on May 1st is holiday, so from 1-4 may probably Calafate and Iguazu will be more busy and therefore more expensive flights also).

Have fun!

hello veronica thankyou for your advise. I have been told that calafate is not the best place to visit at the end of May due to the weather.ALso do you know anything about getting a taxi from the argentinian side of Iguazu to the Brazilian side. We dont really want to have to fly from Iguazu to Rio via Buenosaires as it is very expensive. Thankyou.

Hola maryann,

Yes, you can get taxis easily in Iguazu, either to cross the border or to go to the Park.

There is no need to fly to Rio from Buenos Aires. The brazilian airport of Iguazu is just a few minutes away from the Argentinean Park.

Enjoy!
