booking agencies (Orbitz and others) and the Blue rate

when you book a hotel in BA through Orbitz, expedia and others like that, are they using the blue rate at all in dealing with hotels? or are they asking the hotels for a better "price" even if they dont pass it on to you? seems the temptation would be great for them to do that.

What difference does it make? What you don't know, won't hurt you.

Well the hotel cans see what they're charging the guests on the website so I doubt they will give them a cheaper rate.

If your credit card is charged immediately, like Hotels.com has done, you will pay the listed price. If your credit card is just used to hold the reservation, like booking.com, you will have a chance to change to pesos in country and pay using blue rate at checkout.

I was wondering if the booking agencies were negotiating a better rate than the official rate. seems they would want to.

Keep in mind the blue rate is illegal. For a no name person on the street its easy to break the law. For an established business like a hotel or booking agency they would be taking a big risk. There would be too many paper and electronic trails. A government guy could come in a shut you down or shake you down for big fines.

If a booking agency was doing it, they would have to make sure no one knows about it, least of all a casual poster on this website.
