Yes, you will need to exchange US dollars for Pesos.

100's in perfect condition are the bills that usually get the best rate in the blue market.

High end stores will accept them, not necessarily mid-range shops nor all restaurants. Only Pesos for public transportation and theaters.

Taxi drivers frequently don't have enough small bills to give the change (always a good idea to carry the exact-ish amount of the ride in Pesos with you), I would avoid the problem of discussing the exchange rate in Spanish, on top of that!

Many places will accept U.S. dollars if you have new bills in larger denominations. Some will offer you a discount for U.S. dollars. But by far the best thing to do is to change your money into pesos at the blue rate. (black market) While we were here, we were able to exchange at 9 to 1. Few (very few) stores may offer you a similar rate, but most will only offer the official rate (6 to 1). You can ask at your hotel where there is a safe place to exchange your money. It makes your dollars go much farther!

Yes . A good tip is to go into a Hotel ( or if you are staying in one see the concierge ) and change your US $ to the local peso . The banks or exchanges will give you 6 but the hotels and street changes will give you 9 /us$ . I was told to be careful of the street changers as counterfeit notes are a problem . However the hotels will mark and guarantee the notes they change for you.If you buy at markets they will take us$ as 9 pesos but most big shops will only base it on 6 pesos. Any hotel.

Thanks, we will not be staying at a hotel. Is there any other safe alternatives to get the best exchange rate?

Bring 100 bills in good conditions and go to Florida street. Most restaurants, bars and clubs won’t accept US$ or accept them but at the official rate (it happened to me at Dada in Retiro.) Exchange small amounts each time, use your common sense and you’ll be fine. There’s a lot of info on this posts about exchanging money at the blue rate.

You don't have to change money on Florida street but you can. Ask your hotel to recommend a casa de cambio and got there instead near your hotel where it is safe
