Do you need to get a Brazil visa in advance?
Or can you get it at Iquazu?
It is best to get the Brazilian visa in advance. While it is possible to obtain one in Iguazu at the Brazilian office, it is not given immediately but you will need to return to the office later in the day to receive it. This will only take away from your holiday time.
Also, there is documentation which is required in order to obtain the visa(see the Brazilian consulate website). You don't want to be traveling with extra paper work.
Obtain the visa at home.
BEWARE of on-line companies offering to facilitate getting your visa (i.e. companies like Travelandvisa.com). Not only do you have to send them your passport - which is like handing over your identity, but they ask for unnecessary personal information not on the actual visa application and, in my circumstances, I never heard from them again until they found out they weren't going to get paid. It shouldn't be that a U.S. citizen ever has to send off their passport. However, the Brazilian consulate does not make it easy as you have to show up in person two times (once to submit your application and at least a week later to retrieve your visa). The only way around it is to have someone do it on your behalf. Beware who you choose to do it on your behalf!
