Should we fly into Argentina (IGR) or Brazil(IGU)

We are a group that is doing Iguazu Falls before we board our cruise in Rio. At present, we plan to fly into the Brazil side and proceed immediately to the Sheraton. The next day we would tour the Argentine side of the Falls. the following day we plan to tour the Brazilian side and return to the Sheraton. After we overnight at the hotel, we will leave early the next morning to fly to Rio.

How long does it take to go back and forth from one side to another? Is it feasible to fly into Brazil and go to the Sheraton?

The travel between the parks can take around 40 minutes depending on the border formalities.

The Brazilian Park with including a visit to the optional Bird Park will take approximately 4 hours. While the Argentine Park requires at least an entire day or longer to cover all the walkways.

What many people coming from Rio do: is fly to IGU early then visit the Brazilian Park(store luggage at entrance) then go to Argentina for the night.

After visiting the Argentine park on subsequent days then return to IGU for return to Rio, thus eliminting so many border crossings.

Along the same line...when staying at the Sheraton, when can you hit the trails? Are you limited to the 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm park times, or can you go early at sunrise and stay until sunset?

We absolutely recommend to cut down on border crossings! 40 minutes are possible, but group buses sometimes are requested to have the luggage inspected - and that takes time. The bus stops twice at Brazilian immigration and at Argentine immigration. One line at the first border another line at the second ...

Also consider staying on the Brazilian side. The "Das Cataratas" is the best option inside the Brazilian side of the park and right at the falls. Run by Orient Express. The Sheraton lives and survives as the only brand name hotel in the IGU / IGR area

I agree with ricardo, it's better not to jump back and forward, also I would stay in Puerto Iguazu for the night as if you stay at the Sheraton you're stuck there whereas there's a good selection of bars and restaurants in the town, we stayed at the St George which is right across the road from the bus station so very handy.

Is it safe to leave luggage at the Park Entrance of the Brazilian side? I like the idea of flying into the Brazil side as we are coming from Rio, sightseeing that side, then taxiing over to the Argentinian side in the afternoon. Is that feasible?

Absolutely, take a taxi to the Brazilian entrance of the park, buy your tickets for the park there, leave your luggage and then take the official park bus, included in the ticket, to the Brazilian side of the falls.

After the visit to the Brazilian side, you can still cross over to Argentina, but you'll probably arrive rather at dinner time and not in the afternoon.

Also consider using a pre-booked transfer with a least a driver. Thus you can easily also include a visit to the bird park, which is worth a stop.

Given the risk of being ripped off by a taxi driver, not even that expensive usually.
