Fishing Conditions

I'll be going on a self-guided flyfishing trip in the Bariloche-Esquel region on the second week of April (just before the season closes)... any word on the river conditions?

Hi Eric,

April is really a deamed time to fish over here, few people, still some good weather (but not a warranty) and some big fish moving into the rivers. River conditions...hard to say because its too early. But normally you should spect to find low and cold water.

Around Bariloche there is river that you MUST visit, its name is Limay and April is a golden time to find over 10 pounds brown trout there. Suggested equipment: a 8 1/2 feet for 3 weight line; a 9ft 5 weight; a 9ft 7 weight. Dont forget to carry a shooting head for long cast.

Also, if you consider to visit Los Alerces NP on your way to Esquel I recommend you afford a guide for a float trip in Rivadavia river, you wont believe how good is that.

If you want more information and see pictures heres a good web site where you can catch some info for your lonely adventure.

Tight lines.

At the Esquel area, do not miss to fish Rio Grande (Futaleufú) and Arroyo Pescado.....and further south in April the greatest boca of Corcovado River at Lake Winter
