Lakes near Phoenix

Will be in the Phoenix area next week and am looking for a lake where we can spend an afteroon boating and swimming with hubby and two teens. I found a map of AZ lakes and it looks like Apache, Bartlett, Canyon, Saguaro and Lake Pleasant are all within an hour's drive. Any information to help me decide would be great - which lake is bigger, has better scenery, better boat rentals, cheaper boat rentals, nicer swimming area, more activities, etc. Thanks!

Not sure where you are staying but on the east side of town Saguaro is the close - closer than Apache & Bartlett. Canyon would probably be next. They both have boat rentals I have seen a a beach at Saguaro and I'm sure Canyon probably has one. They both have websites. Both have good boat rentals. We have not been to Bartlett but check their website.

Lake Pleasant is to the west and is quite large with a lot of boating. They probably have a swimming area also but we never really looked into that.

If you're on the west side of Phoenix, go to Lake Pleasant. They have a great marina and swimming areas, too. If you're in Scottsdale, either Bartlett (north of town) or Saguaro (east of town) are excellent. Both have marinas and swimming. If you're in the East Valley (Mesa, Chandler, etc) then go to Canyon. It too, has a marina and swimming. Nothing wrong with Apache Lake except that it's further away and more of a fishing and overnight camping location.
