Alice Cooperstown Restaurant

Hi,

Going to go to Alice Cooperstown in August, so it will not be baseball season.

1) How is the area? Is it safe off-season?

2) What else is there to do in the area late afternoon/early evening?

3) Is there street parking?

Also, did I read there is a "drive through" wildlife park in the Phoenix area?

Thx~

The Diamondbacks will be playing at least until the end of September.

Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium is in Litchfield Park but it is not a drive through.

August is not off-season. The Diamondbacks may be on the road when you are in town, but it is still baseball season.

There is street parking near Chase Field, and the area surrounding Alice Cooperstown, which is within a couple of blocks of Chase. If the Diamondbacks are on the road, you can probably park at Cooperstown. If the D'backs have a game, the area will be full of people and cars.

If the Diamondbacks or Suns (pro basketball) do not have a game, downtown Phoenix generally clears out after 6 p.m. There is a new area just to the west at Jefferson and Central with a hotel, clubs and restaurants. It is supposed to be fairly lively.

The area is fine, might be kind of deserted at times, but no real safety issues. Street parking is available. You may find parking even on game days if you get there around 5, assuming a 6:40 game, but there are plenty of cheap parking lots available on game days if you don't get too close to the stadium. Meters are free after 5 on weekdays and all day on Saturday and Sunday.

Not sure what your interests are in terms of recommending things to do. The museums that are in downtown proper close at 4 (Children's Museum, Rosson House) or 5 (Science Center). There is an upscale bowling alley at Cityscape called Lucky Strike. In addition to the Diamondbacks, the Phoenix Mercury (WNBA) are still playing in August at US Airways Center.

Thanks so much. All of this really helps. I guess I will need to check out the stadiums schedule for the day we choose to go.

We are not looking for a museum or bowling but something unique to the area. We will be spending one day downtown, so if there is anything inaparticular to see - we have an under 28 year old.

Thought on these? And are they walkable in 100 degree heat? St. Mary's Basilica Open to visitors?), Chase Tower, One Arizona Center.....

Snowed in the the Northeast.... So looking forward to this!

I'm not sure St. Mary's or One Arizona Center are true tourist attractions. Chase Tower used to have a restaurant at the top. It may now be a private club; have not been up there in ages. However next to St. Mary's and Chase Tower is the Phoenix Civic Plaza with Symphony Hall and Hershberger Theater. Also a Science Museum. Next to that Is Heritage Square with samples of refurbished older Phoenix homes. Also an excellent pizzeria. You could take a peek in St. Mary's, if you are curious.

There is shade, but take along some water and don't get dehydrated.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate the D'Backs schedule

And Heritage Square seems to exactly fit the bill as to what I am looking for!
